For the last 12 years I have been a writer, speaker, coach and consultant. | |

As a teen growing up near Denver, Colorado I took a psychology class and knew what I wanted to do with my life... I definitely wanted to be a therapist. I thought it would be the greatest job in the world. Then I attended my first college psychology class and learned that the therapeutic process involved labeling and diagnosing people. That just didn't feel right to me. And, although, I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do next, I absolutely knew that what I enjoyed most was deep, meaningful conversations.

First Career in Business Management...My early career path was not as the therapist I thought I would be but as a business professional. I spent 24 years in the printing and publishing industry mostly in Denver, Colorado. For more than 18 of those years I held upper level management positions in sales, production, and customer service. During my last couple of years in the printing industry, I gradually became aware of a lack of a "sense of purpose." I felt that I was put on this earth to do something more than to print another brochure. For the first time in my life, I heard my inner voice say, "I want to make a difference." The journey of my "pursuit for purpose" began with a simple but profound step... I said a prayer to God. The prayer was "I'm ready to make a major contribution to the world, God, what do you want me to do?" After three months of repeating my prayer daily the answer I got was to write a book and begin public speaking. "Write a book and do public speaking?!?"
So, loaded with bit of self-doubt, I began to write. Within 6 months I had finished my first book. That book led to a book tour, workshops, and, yes, public speaking. The writing and speaking gave me some sense of purpose, but my intuition told me there was more. How I became a Business Coach, Business Consultant, and Life Coach...The lingering desire for deep, meaningful conversations was always there for me. Then in 1998 I attended a workshop on a new concept called "coaching" and the rest, as they say, is history. I had found a career that was a perfect combination of all that I loved and all that I had done. Coaching incorporated my desire to help clients without labeling them, it used my extensive background as a business manager, and it required my ability to consult, write and speak. But even more important to me was that I got to share my deep-held conviction that the way to a satisfying and fulfilling life is to get out of the fear and listen to my intuition. My Desire to Develop my Intuition...Throughout my life I noticed that certain people accomplished things quicker, easier, and had far better results than the majority of others. I had a burning desire to know how they made that happen. What secret did they know that I didn't? Step by step I learned the secret. The secret was that I needed to begin trusting something we all posses... our inner guide - our gut feeling - our intuition. To this day, my goal is to trust and follow my intuition every minute of every day. A lot of the time I do. However, there are still times when I resist my inner guide and learn the hard way. Those are the times I say to myself, "Vickie, you knew that. Why didn't you just do it?" I remind myself that listening to and trusting my intuition has given me the dream life and the dream job that I now have.
