The Costs of Overeating

As a life and weight coach, overeating is a concern we discuss in our coaching sessions. From my experience and my clients, I’ve concluded that most of us are not aware of the enormous price we pay for overeating.

Here are Some of the Costs of Overeating…

FINANCIAL COSTS

  • Added expenses of larger-sized clothing.
  • Health club memberships never used.
  • Extra money spent on extra food.
  • Money spent on various diet programs.
  • Higher medical bills due to weight issues.
  • Lost job opportunities, promotions, or customers.

HEALTH COSTS

  • It’s easier to get run down and pick up the latest bug.
  • Poor health, like having high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes or heart conditions.
  • Increased difficulty in doing physical activity, which relieves stress and improves our health.
  • Suffering from side effects from additional prescriptions.
  • Low energy.

TIME COSTS

  • Thinking about what we are going to eat next.
  • Constantly eating.
  • Waiting in fast food lines, which is probably the same amount of time it takes to prepare a healthy meal at home.

EMOTIONAL COSTS

  • Decreased connection with friends and family.
  • Distraction from achieving our dreams and goals in life.
  • Keeps us hanging onto other problems because we numb our feelings and “stuff them” instead of deal with them.
  • Lack of self-esteem and confidence.
  • Lessened ability to listen to our intuition.
  • Forgo adventure, passion, and “being alive“.

After all of those, is overeating really worth the price we have to pay?

What Happens When you Cheat on the hCG Weight Loss Diet?

I was discussing this subject with SanTanNaturalMedicine located here in the Phoenix, AZ metro area and this is what physically happens.

Physically what Happens When You Cheat on the hCG Weight Loss Diet…

You probably…

  • Won’t lose weight and there is a good possibility you will gain weight.
  • Will be hungry most of the time.
  • Will feel irritable and fatigued.
  • Will put your body in starvation mode, which is very unhealthy.

Being a life coach for more than 12 years, I always look at the emotional side of issues. Here is what I think happens mentally when we cheat.

Psychologically what Happens When You Cheat on the hCG Weight Loss Diet…

You…

  • Not only struggle with the guilt, but have a tendency to also punish yourself for cheating.
  • Lower your self-esteem and reduce your confidence.
  • Are likely to lash out and start blaming the doctor, the hCG Diet, or your friend for convincing you to try it.

Can you think of any others?

The Overeating Cycle

Overeating can be a vicious cycle. We start the cycle by finding a way to JUSTIFY eating more, especially carbohydrates.

Ways we JUSTIFY Eating More-

1. To relieve stress, which can come in the form of boredom,  loneliness or worry.
(Example: Talking to one of your co-workers, you learn  there may be more layoffs. You go to the vending machine and get a bag of chips to ease your fear.)

2  To reward ourselves.
(Example: You’ve gone weeks on your stressful weight loss diet without cheating, so you figure you deserve a little treat.)

3 The lack of time.
(Example: You’ve had a long day at work. You still have  to help the kids with their homework and do a couple loads of wash. To relieve the stress of not having enough hours in the day, you grab fast food on the way home from work.)

As soon as we JUSTIFY, we start EATING. This causes STRESS. To RELIEVE the stress, we JUSTIFY eating again. The cycle has begun.

When we catch ourselves explaining, rationalizing, defending or making excuses on why we need to eat more, we’re caught in the overeating cycle.

Disadvantages of Doing the hCG Diet without a Doctor

The hCG diet is becoming so prevalent, medical professionals in day spas, naturopathic offices and clinics specializing in nothing but administering the diet are popping up as store fronts. Do you need a doctor’s supervision to follow the diet? It’s a personal choice.  There are some disadvantages of ditching the doctor and choosing to go it alone.

Here are Some Disadvantages of Doing the hCG Diet Without a Doctor…

  • The most important factor is that other physical problems may be preventing weight loss or contributing to weight gain and need to be addressed before starting the hCG diet. I had two challenges that needed to be adjusted before I started losing weight on the hCG diet.
  • Although the side effects of the hCG diet are few, a doctor can suggest reliable remedies. This spares us time and trial and error from internet searches and the advice of others we know on the diet.
  • Sometimes it’s hard to stay focused and to motivate ourselves, especially when we hit a plateau and have days without weight loss.
  • Weight loss can be more fun and easier to maintain if others are involved in the process.

Advantages of Doing the hCG Diet Without a Doctor

Everywhere I go I encounter women doing the hCG weight loss diet. It seems to be the latest diet craze, especially here in the Phoenix, Arizona metro area.

In one of my business group coaching sessions last week, four women admitted they were on the hCG diet but not using medical supervision. That got me thinking…why would they decide not to use a doctor?

Here are Some Advantages of Doing the hCG Diet Without a Doctor…

  • The obvious and probably most important factor is cost. Some of my coaching clients have paid as much as $2,000 through a naturopathic doctor. I was lucky. I paid a small fraction of that with SanTanNaturalMedicine.com
  • Another reason might be to use the diet as a way to build self-esteem. Like many women, we might have an I’ll-do-it-myself-attitude, thinking if we gained the weight ourselves, we can lose it ourselves too.
  • Not using a doctor can eliminate our guilty feelings. It makes it easier to deal with not achieving our weight goal.
  • We want to keep our freedom. We don’t want somebody watching over our shoulder, making sure we stick with the diet. No one’s holding us accountable. What a relief!
  • Maybe we’ve learned from the past. We could have put our trust in doctors before and found they’ve failed us. Maybe they’ve failed to really listen to us, keep proper track of our test results or monitor our progress or setbacks.
